Current Issue

The fall 2017 issue of Louisiana Cultural Vistas is here.

Our cover story poses a question: Where is Louisiana art? Where is it made? Where is it going? And where does it find inspiration. The directors of the state’s nine regional arts councils gave us answers.

This issue is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council.

The issue also includes:

  • Justin Nobel on the efforts of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to replant marshlands along the state’s endangered coast.
  • Rebecca Snedeker and Leon Waters on artist Dread Scott’s plans to reenact the 18111 slave insurrection along River Road.
  • Ben Sandmel’s review of American Epic, a new documentary from PBS.
  • A look at the Instagram photographers using #LACulture to showcase their perspectives on the state.
  • Alison Fensterstock on a board game developed at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.
  • Rien Fertel revisits William Faulkner’s “Mosquitoes.”

We also have partner sections from the Historic New Orleans CollectionLouisiana State MuseumOgden Museum of Southern ArtNew Orleans Museum of Art, and Shreveport Regional Arts Council; plus our picks for the summer season.
